Enjoy Outdoor Activites All Year Round, Visit Phoenix, "the City of the Sun"

Author: Connie Boling

Today, being the fifth largest city in the United States and the capital of the state of Arizona, the city has become a popular tourist destination that offers visitors world famous sites like Arizona Science Center, Phoenix Art Museum, Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park, Heard Museum and Desert Botanical Garden. Due to its hot weather tourists flock to Phoenix mostly in the winter when the temperature remains around 65 degree Fahrenheit. Phoenix is a unique city in the middle of the great Sonoran Desert that dates back to early Native American civilizations.

The early economy of Phoenix was basically agricultural but with rapid urbanization and development it has prospered in different types of industries that generate thousands of jobs throughout the year. Arizona University has helped provide more job opportunities for research professionals with its growing development of research capabilities. There are also seven Fortune 1000 companies that have branches in Arizona, including Intel Corporation.

Phoenix is a bustling city with lot of new people coming in, and if you are thinking about relocation, Phoenix might be a good option for you. Real estate in Phoenix and that of the surrounding cities in Arizona are inexpensive and are a real deal if you can stand the hot climate that is characteristic of a desert region. In Phoenix homes are very affordable, many available at $100,000 or less. Condominiums and apartments are also being sold at one third of the rate of other booming cities in the United States. To find a home suitable for your needs as well as the needs of your family, lets discuss the neighborhoods of Phoenix a little.

Downtown- the heart of the city and home of some historic neighborhoods. These days, some areas like Willo and Encanto-Palmcroft districts are high in demand among Realtors and real estate in Phoenix is really on a roll in these areas.

F.Q. Story Historic District- this is one of the areas which many Phoenix real estate agents favor. Home to many historic buildings and architecture, F.Q. Story Historic District is one of the best known places in the city.

Maryvale- if you are looking for Phoenix homes for sale at reasonable rates; this is the place for you. Once crimes were frequent in this area, but these days, the government has done a brilliant job cutting it down.

Glendale- A suburb area which is coming into the limelight real fast due to its fast developments. Home to celebrities like Jordin Sparks, David Hernandez, Stephenie Meyer, Eric Bischoff and V. L. Carter; Glendale can be the perfect setting for your Phoenix home.

South Phoenix- also called South Mountain District or SoMo, South Phoenix is one of the most important areas of the city. A number of homes for sale in Phoenix are available in this area. South Phoenix is one of the most populous regions of the city.

Ahwatukee- this L shaped residential area of town is known as one of the bustling parts of Phoenix. Really well connected with the rest of the city, a variety of Phoenix homes are available in this neighborhood.

Phoenix boasts one of the best educational systems in the United States. It's divided into 30 school districts with the Phoenix Union High School Districts operating most of the public schools in the area. There are also many private and charter schools like North Pointe in Phoenix. The main seat of higher education is the University of Arizona with 4 different campuses across the country, it supports a medical Unit with 2 campuses. Apart from this, Grand Canyon University, Thunderbird School of Global management, Western Governors University, University of Phoenix the country's largest open University with branches all over America and even in Mexico, Canada and Netherlands, and the University of Advancing Technology, have given Phoenix a dignified position of educational excellence in the United States.

Described as the "Valley of the Sun" this city packs quite a punch for travelers as it represents somehow a hybrid version of Los Angeles and Las Vegas. With a population of more than a million people in the city and over two million in the metropolitan area, Phoenix is one of the fastest growing cities of US. Phoenix was built with the concept of being a great tourist destination and has several restaurants offering delicious cuisines from around the world right in the heart of the desert. Carolina's Mexican Food, Pizzeria Bianco, Tutti Santi, Old Spaghetti Factory, China Chilli, Fazitas, Farm at South Mountain, Alexis Grill, and Durant's are highly recommended. Try them out for some lip smacking true Chinese, Mexican and Italian cuisine.

Apart from Heard's museum and Taliesin West, Phoenix also boasts the famous resort called the Sun City that draws tourists from across the world. During the winter, people in cold northern climates visit Phoenix to warm up their bones at the resorts and spas and soak in the sun. They also enjoy being able to participate in outdoor activities like swimming, hiking and golf, that winter cold prevents them from doing. Some of the most famous hotels and spas include Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa, JW Marriott Desert resort, Pointe Hilton Peak resort, Embassy Suites phoenix, The Ridge Carlton Phoenix, Arizona Grand Resort, Legacy golf resort, Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliff Resort, and Hyatt regency Phoenix. Almost all of the resort offer massage centers and spas. They also provide services for desert tours, local sightseeing, and chauffeur car services to help you enjoy and get the most our of your vacation.

Travel Guide for Family Holidays in Paris

Author: Marty Davis

There are the obvious sights to see when on holiday in Paris with the family, such as the Eiffel Tower, but the there are numerous beautiful gardens situated throughout the city that are a great way to relax with a picnic and let the children enjoy themselves on the playgrounds.

Many gardens have pony or donkey rides along with merry-go-rounds such as the famous old one at the Jardin du Luxembourg, which is a great thrill for the young children, but for the harder to please teenagers there are specific areas for skating and even activities like table tennis at the Parc Andre-Citroen.

During the summer months Paris comes alive with lots of different festivals, fetes and shows which take place all over the city, and from puppet shows to fairs through to open air jazz concerts, there is going to be something to keep everyone amused.

Yet how about going to the beach? Well Paris may not be near to the beach, but every year they create a beach scene on the banks of the River Seine called the Paris Plage where they bring in tonnes of sand and create activities such as volleyball courts and even have a floating swimming pool.

Thinking of the River Seine, why not take a trip down the river on one of the traditional bateau mouches long-boats and see the famous monuments like Notre Dame cathedral, and you could even opt to have lunch or dinner on board, yet the evening is a fantastic experience with the bridges and the Paris landmarks all lit up along the route.

Rather than using the metro, younger children would often prefer a bus ride and you could choose a site seeing tour on an open double decker bus that goes around the city, which is a lot more fun. One particular firm called the l’Open Tour buses has four different routes where you can even get to see places like the Sacre-Coeur Basilica.

You cannot forget about walking along the Champs Elysees with its famous shops, but when those little legs get tired, the Häagen-Dazs ice cream house will be a delight for all members of the family.

Ok, so you would like to get out of the city for the day. Well how about a day trip to a Safari Park at the Parc Zoologique de Thoiry, which also has a beautiful chateau and a unique interactive maze, which is the only one of its kind in the world. Also if you are into outdoor activities then there are a couple of great places such as the Base Regionale de Loisirs de Saint Quentin en Yvelines for activities like fishing, golf, sailing, a wave pool, quad biking, karting and even a tree top adventure centre called the Paris Ouest Aventure.

And of course there are the theme parks like Disneyland Paris and Parc Asterix, which we have all heard about, but what about the Mer de Sable, which has a wild west theme where you can see shows, yet if you prefer wildlife rather than wild rides, you can watch eagles in flight along with tree top walks at the Espace Rambouillet. France Miniature is another theme park designed as a map of France showing numerous monuments and landmarks in miniature, but from here you may even wish to take a short trip to the famous Chateau de Versailles, where you can experience an equestrian show or fountain show on specific days during the summer months.

But what about in bad weather, we hear you asking. Well, Paris is a city that has it all, with a wide variety of entertainment and activities available for all ages. You could think about a visit to the Cite de Sciences and experience the Geode movie dome or different interactive experiments, then venture into the L’Argonaute submarine that sits just outside.

How about a circus? This is often a good family entertainment option and Paris has two main circuses called the Cirque Diana Moreno Bormann and the Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione, and you can even book trapeze lessons or see shows at the Club Med World, but for the older members of your family, Club Med World also has a nightclub.

There are so many different options for shows, like magic at the Double Fond or a horse show at the Theatre Equestre Zingaro, but perhaps an aquarium would be of more interest to you and your family and in the centre of Paris there is the incredible CineAqua that has the largest viewing screen in the world.

PlayMobil is a great place for young children where they can actually play with different PlayMobil toys set out in different themes like a castle, or for older children and teenagers the, Aquaboulevard leisure centre will keep everyone entertained with the flumes, wave pool and jacuzzi’s etc, but don’t worry you could in the restaurant watching them!

You have no doubt gathered by now that Paris has so many activities on offer and we are only scratching the surface, but hopefully this has provided you with more of an insight into a city that caters for all ages, so you can plan your holiday and get the most out of it

Tips for Outdoor Sleeping Bags

Author: Janey Yang

Typical Types of Sleeping Bags

Air Mattress Sleeping Bag If you are planning a camping, backpacking or some other type of trip that will take you out and about into the great outdoors, you will want to give some serious and direct consideration to making the purchase of an air mattress sleeping bag. There actually are some wonderful benefits that are associated with an air mattress sleeping bag. The fact is that those people who have tried an air mattress sleeping bag tend to avoid using any other types of sleeping bag.

Coleman Sleeping Bag

If you are a person – or a member of a family – that enjoys spending time in the great outdoors, you understand the vital importance of buying and using the best equipment, the most suitable products for your woodland adventures. In short, when it comes to purchasing products and equipment for camping or for other recreational activities that will find you spending time outside, you want to make sure that you are getting these items from a company or manufacturer that has a solid and incomparable reputation in the field. This particularly is the case when it comes to sleeping gear and sleeping bags. For many years, Coleman sleeping bag products have been at the pinnacle.

Double Sleeping Bag

If you are planning a camping trip with that special someone in your life, you may be giving some thought to the idea of buying a double sleeping bag for the trip. Before you set off to the local sporting goods store to find and buy a double sleeping bag, take a moment to consider the pros and cons of a double sleeping bag. Take a moment to determine how a double sleeping bag can best be a part of your overall gear and equipment scheme.

Love Your Sleeping Bag and It’ll Love You

Your Sleeping Bag is quite often your bed. For some who live a lifestyle that keeps them in the outdoors for long periods of time, it’s their only bed and the most important caming outdoor gear. But your bag isn’t like a regular mattress. It needs attention to keep it at its fluffy best throughout the years. SierraTradingPost has a great sleeping bag guide that contains all the information you’d need when buying or caring for your bag. We’ve listed their care suggestions below, along with ours to help you get the most life out of your bag. So here it is…

How to Clean and Care for your Sleeping Bag…

Dry out your bag immediately after every use. Always follow the care instructions for your bag if washing it. If you misplace them, wash your bag by hand with a mild detergent and tumble dry on low heat, or wash in a front-loading washer on a gentle cycle. Store your bag in a cool, dry place and never leave it jammed inside a stuff sack, or it will eventually lose loft and will permanently become less effective. Use a storage sack if possible. Never pack away a wet sleeping bag for longer than it takes to drive home from your destination. Hang it out to dry or tumble dry it at low heat as soon as you get home. Additional Sleeping Bag Care Suggestions… If your bag is down-filled and you don’t have your care instructions, but would like to clean it, you have options. Try taking a bucket with detergent and warm water and dipping a rag in it. Wipe your bag down with this rag. Antiacterial wipes are also a great way to do a quickie job on your bag before you store it away. Storing your bags in a large Rubbermaid style container is a great way to keep the mice away. Many of us store our gear in garages or basements and you never know when a varmit will be dropping in to see if he can find something to gnaw on. If you are traveling by plane and have to leave your bag stuffed in its stuff sack for long periods of time (days) try unpacking it when you get to your destination and letting it loft up. Often when traveling we have a day or so in a hotel or at a friends house before we hit the trail. This can give your bag a break from being stuffed away and will keep it lofty for your trip and recreation life. By maintaining your bag well you could pull a good 10 years out of it. There are probably many other ways you can keep your bag in top shape.

How to Stay Warm in a Sleeping Bag

Just because your sleeping bag goes down to 10 degrees doesn't mean you can just slide in at nighttime and be toasty all night. Follow these tips to keep your heat close. Use a quality sleeping mat: Get yourself away from the ground. Even putting a 1 inch layer of air between you and the ground (such as provided by a Thermarest) can make a huge difference. Don't lose your clothes: When its below freezing, the only things you should take off before getting into your sleeping bag are your boots and an outer shell jacket. Keep your polarfleece and long underewear on your corpus. I like to change my socks before going to bed (rather than in the morning) as they give your feet a dry, warm home for the night. Wear a hat: It'll make a world of difference. Snuggle deep: Keep your arms and your head inside your bag, and wrap it around your face. Lie still: Limit your movement as much as you can. The cool side of the pillow theory doesn't apply when winter camping.

Sophisticated Customers

Besides growing competition, customers’ changing habits are pushing outdoor and travel equipment retailers to invest into more sophisticated stores, services and goods. The high number of various retailers on the market is one reason that shopper loyalty is very low, as more than two-thirds of Czechs switch between many sport stores. People choose their sport stores mainly according to location, assortment and expertise of the shop assistants, the survey shows. Responding to the changing customers’ habits Hudysport has, instead of expanding, invested tens of millions of crowns over the past two years into revamping its 29 Czech and seven Slovak franchised stores. “We are focusing on remodeling our outlets, which will also continue this year,” Sedliský said, adding that Hudysport is keeping up with new trends and provides products made of innovative materials. He added the store trains its personnel so they can expertly assist clients. “Customers have grown wise and have become more discerning. … They now think carefully what products to buy to invest their still growing amount of money responsibly,” he said. “While five years ago, customers were satisfied with one kind of blue and red jacket that quickly sold out, now they ask for modern designs, innovative materials and various colors.” Regarding outdoor and sports goods, low prices are not the key factor and shoppers pay close attention to the quality they get at a given price. The brand is perceived mostly as a feature that guarantees quality, but the brand itself is not of great value, according to the survey.

“The trend is clear. … Rather than buying a cheap vacuum bottle or sleeping bag in [a hypermarket] they go to specialized stores and invest in higher-quality brand products.”

5 Reasons Why You Should First Research Hawaii Activities And Attractions

Have you recently decided that you would like to have a Hawaii vacation? If you have, you may want to get started with your planning and the making of your reservations right away. While this is more than doable, you may also want to take the time to first examine Hawaii activities and attractions.

As important as it is to hear that you should first take the time to examine Hawaii attractions and activities, you may be wondering what the importance of doing so is. Five reasons why you should take the time to examine Hawaii activities and attractions are outlined below for your convenience.

1 – Can Help You Choose Your Hawaiian Destination

As you likely already know, Hawaii is a popular vacation destination. One of the many reasons for that is the options that you have, in terms of destinations. There are a number of Hawaiian Islands for you to choose from, including Maui, Oahu, Big Island, and more. Hawaii activities and attractions can help you choose the Hawaii destination that is perfect for your next trip.

When examining Hawaii activities and attractions, you will find many similarities, especially with activities. For example, surfing is a popular activity on all the Hawaiian Islands. With that in mind, you may want to take the time to find the beaches or islands that are known for having the best surfing conditions in Hawaii, and so forth.

2 – Can Help You Choose the Perfect Hawaii Vacation Rental

If you are interested in booking a stay at a Hawaii vacation rental, nearby activities and attractions can and should play a huge role in your rental choice. For example, if you are interested in participating in beach related activities, like boating, surfing, or scuba diving, you will want to closely examine beachfront Hawaii vacation rentals. On the other hand, if you are looking to hike through a national park, you will want to find vacation rentals near your intended destination.

Researching nearby activities and attractions, before booking a stay at a Hawaii vacation rental has a number of benefits. Two of those benefits include saved time and saved money. By ensuring that your Hawaii vacation rental is conveniently located, you can save on the cost of travel, whether it be the cost of public transportation or gas money, and you can save time, by eliminating unnecessary travel. This saved time and saved money can help you enjoy your next Hawaii vacation to its fullest extent.

3 – Can Help You Map Out Your Vacation

Have you recently decided that you would like to have a Hawaii vacation? If you have, you may want to get started with your planning and the making of your reservations right away. While this is more than doable, you may also want to take the time to first examine Hawaii activities and attractions.

That is why you may want to take the time to research Hawaii activities and attractions. If there is a lot that you want to do and see in Hawaii, a schedule or at least a casual plan can help you accomplish your goals.

4 – Lets You Know What You Need to Pack

For example, if you are interested in hiking through a national park, you will want to bring comfortable clothing and shoes. On the other hand, if you are looking to enjoy beach related activities, you will want to ensure that you bring your swimsuit and sunscreen.

5 – Lets You Know How Much You Can Expect to Spend

If you are taking a Hawaii vacation on a budget, you may be looking to limit your expenses. One of the best ways to avoid going over your budget involves preplanning many of your Hawaii activities. Many online websites let you know how much you have to pay in admission fees for Hawaii attractions. Even if you aren’t provided with a fee list, you should still be able to plan ahead for the expenses that may be associated with each Hawaii activity that you would like to participate in or each attraction you would like to visit.

The above mentioned reasons are just a few of the many why you should first take the time to examine Hawaii attractions and activities, before making your Hawaii vacation rental reservations. With the ability to use the internet to your advantage, as well as request free vacation guides, you have nothing to lose by doing so.

Preparing sandwiches is quite common during a picnic, however people also take footballs and sport equipment that if placed on top of the sandwiches can ruin the entire meal. The exterior of most picnic baskets are made with strong materials which shield your meals from sport equipment which might ruin it.

There are several types of picnic baskets, some are very simple and provide a single compartment, however the best ones have several compartments which allow people to carry mugs, a blanket, food containers, a cutting board, napkins, extra glasses, utensils and even a small cooler. Tips For Planning Your Christmas Party Activities

It's about that time of year again, Christmas party season is fast approaching and you are inundated with invites to various parties over the holiday period. But you may want to host a Christmas party yourself. Read on for some tips on hosting the perfect Christmas party and thinking of the creative activities for all to take part in.

As previously mentioned, It is very common to host a party for the Christmas holiday. This gives you a chance to gather with your friends and family and enjoy various activities together. You will be able to offer delicious foods and bake wonderful looking desserts for everyone to enjoy. In order to keep everyone happy at your party though you will need to plan some Christmas party activities. It is important that they are appropriate for everyone in attendance. You may want to offer separate Christmas activities for adults and children though to get the most out of the gathering.

Planning Christmas Party Activities for Children

If there will be several children attending your Christmas party you need to find activities they will be very excited about. There are plenty of different ones you can choose from so take your time looking to see what is out there. Children love games that allow them to be active so look to your inner creativity as well. These games don’t have to be expensive either as many of them require the use of common items you already have.

They will also love being able to help you decorate your Christmas tree. To give it some added fun have each child wear a blindfold before they place anything on the Christmas tree. Musical chairs always goes over well as does being able to pin the tail on the reindeer or the hat on Santa Claus.

Offer some great prizes for the children that participate in your Christmas party activities. You should have party favor bags on hand to give out at the end so that every child leaves with something. Instead of traditional party bags you can place the items into a small stocking with their name on it.

Christmas Party Activities for the Adults

Many of the adults at your Christmas party may not know each other. Get everyone involved with some fabulous activities. This can be anything from singing Christmas carols together to playing charades. Adult scavenger hunts are a great hit and you can divide the adults into teams. Try to mix everyone up so they will meet new people during the process.

How about organising a Secret Santa before the actual party. Get you guests to buy a gift for a stranger. Everyone gets a gift but no one knows who from!

It will take some planning to come up with fun Christmas party activities but it will be well worth it when you see how much fun everyone is having. You don’t want to have a party where the same people gather to talk with those they normally do. Adding Christmas party activities will ensure your house is one place everyone wants to gather again next year.

Activities for Kids in the Caribbean

Caribbean kids activities are available throughout the range of islands and some of the top attractions may be found in the ports of Georgetown (Grand Cayman), Ohco Rios and Montego Bay (Jamaica), Cozumel and Costa Maya (Mexico), Belize City (Belize), and Bay Island (Roatan) located at the north coast of Honduras.

While the Caribbean has always been a popular tourist destination among people all over the world, there is a new trend spreading across these islands that is more focused at providing great vacations to families. There are several couples who have been here before but now they are enjoying the whole experience with their kids who in turn are having a great time thanks to the Caribbean kids activities. Some of the most popular spots within the Caribbean are now being visited by families. All over the islands, Caribbean kids activities are found readily available through resorts that are now including kids programs in their daily routine so that the adults are not the only ones enjoying the Caribbean beaches. Of course, the kids too can engage in the various water activities like snorkeling, etc. or simply stay on the beach proper building castles in the sand.

This is a vast change from the old days when the Caribbean was mostly known for being a haven for the rich and famous who would dress up for formal dinners and typically stay there for weeks on end. All that was changed by air travel that put the Caribbean within reach of the average family and it was not long before this collection of tropical islands became a pleasant destination for honeymooners and now, thanks to Caribbean kids activities, it has undergone another transformation and become one of the premier family destinations in the world.

Due to this change in the focus of the Caribbean from the honeymooners to the family, a lot of couples are coming back with their kids and staying at resorts that are more focused towards their family as a whole.

Activities for Kids in the Caribbean

The Caribbean is a good place for family vacations thanks to the numerous beaches, ancient ruins, and natural attractions. Thanks to the Caribbean kids activities available throughout the islands it is one of the best places to visit with your family. The itineraries of the various cruise lines operating in the Caribbean have expanded considerably during the past few years and include Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Cozumel, Belize, Roatan, Costa Maya, and Mexico.

Family Fun Activities: How You Can Have Fun With Your Family

Are you looking for some family fun activities? Do you wonder how to have fun with your family? Family entertainment is often advertised as expensive and requiring a great deal of planning, but the truth is that real family fun is neither. While the family fun activities each family enjoys are unique to each individual family, there are only three simple rules to follow to enjoy fun together: Keep it cheap, keep it simple, and keep it together.

It is important to keep the majority (if not all) of your family fun activities either inexpensive or free. Most families are on a tight budget and simply cannot afford to engage in costly recreation on a regular basis. So why not create some fun activities that are cheap or even free? If your entertainment is free or cheap then you are much more likely to engage in it on a regular basis. Take a look around your community for opportunities. Look for community parks and events, keep a note of church or school activities from concerts to plays, and plan activities for your family that could include friends such as a backyard treasure hunt or kickball game. While a trip to the amusement park can certainly be fun, your children will also enjoy just having fun in their own backyard with you.

While it is occasionally OK to go all out with a family entertainment outing, most of the time you should keep your family fun simple. If you spend too much time and energy planning or organizing the fun then you will not have the time and energy to enjoy the fun and your family. Plus, the simple truth is that simple is often better when it comes to kids. If you are together then your activity can be as simple as a walk or day in the park. It is also important to remember that is you regular plan complicated outings then you will need to keep creating ever more complicated arrangements to keep their interest. However if you start simple and small then you have a lot of room to increase the level of activity.

Finally, the one important element you need to remember when planning your family fun is to keep it together. What you do and where you do it is not important so long as you do it as a family. The together is what is important (and of course the fun) but everything else is not.

There are only three basic rules for family fun: keep it cheap, keep it simple, and keep it together. If you and your family follow these rules then you can easily plan a lifetime of family fun that will bring your family closer together.

Recreational Activities Can Be A Good Source In Reducing Your Stresses

Regardless how tough your fears, anxieties, and stresses may be, taking advantage of certain recreational activities can be a great source in managing your fears and stresses. There are many ways in which taking advantage of recreational sports and activities can help you relieve some of your stresses.

The first step is to get your doctor’s permission in performing any activities. You do not want to over extend yourself. Explain to your doctor what kinds of activities you will perform and have him set up a schedule where you will not hurt yourself.

Performing recreation activities is a good source to meet people and make new friends. Making friends and socializing with other people is important in dealing with your stresses and anxieties. Hanging out with people you like is a good way to stop focusing on your current fears and anxieties.

Recreational activities can improve your health which will also help you to manage your stresses. Use your energy on a recreational event such as walking instead of worrying about your problems. A slow walk will make you feel better, get you relaxed and decrease your stress levels.

Participating in a recreational activity can give you a new perspective in dealing with your fears and worries. When you are upset, you tend to focus on your worries and anxieties. Doing something that you like to do will give you a “time out” in your worrying. Once you are done performing your activity, you will look differently at your worrisome problem than if you didn’t do anything at all.

The more fun you have, the more relaxed you will be. Your fears and anxieties are real but that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun doing something you like. Remember: Performing any kind of recreational activity can go a long way in managing your stresses and anxieties, but it is not a substitute for the guidance of a professional.

Outdoor: Getting Out Of One’s Shell

If you’re bored with routinely in-house lifestyle, why not give outdoor get-away a shot? Tell me, what’s keeping you away from all the outdoor fun?

Let me guess, you’re probably in your mid 40’s and you think it’s not okay for you to be seen doing some outdoor stuffs; or maybe you live in a place where clubhouse and parks are nowhere in sight.

Cheer up and chill out! There are more than a thousand reason to go get outdoor and enjoy physical activities. Let it be a part of your new found life! Here are 10 tips on how to overcome barriers that hinder you from having a great outdoor fun.

1. Do not let your social environment affect your outdoor lifestyle and physical activity. If people at work, school, community, and even your family do not mesh well with your opts, then try to stick with your own outdoor activities.

2. Outdoor activities aim to cut down on stress and pressure brought by the exhausting environmental workplace. Look for recreational places where you can increase and improve your level of physical and outdoor activity.

If your village or residential area doesn’t have trails, parks or sidewalks, a spacious garage, or your garden side may do.

3. U.S Active Community Environments Initiative (or ACEI) have projects and programs that are created in support of the development of recreational centers and amusement parks where people can continue to enjoy outdoor activities like jogging, running, walking, bicycling and more.

4. Today, various fitness centers has continued to sprout, as well as malls which fervently provide space and pavements for fitness walking has come up with different ways to improve people’s health and wellness through many other outdoor opportunities.

5. Technological breakthroughs and inventions such as elliptical trainers, escalators, elevators, and cars which aims to make people’s lives easier are also making people work with less movement, thus making them less active.

Mom’s who usually jogs from the house to the grocery to buy goods are now finding the comfort of riding on their cars most of the time. People would rather take the elevator than shed some sweat and use the stairs.

Figure conscious people would often resort to drinking slimming teas, or direct pills for faster results than getting real exercise.

And people who believe so much in those powerful elliptical machines would rather stay at home than enjoy fun and healthy outdoor exercise. Don’t let this barriers take the place of your normal outdoor activities.

6. Most people tend to stay away from outdoor activities because they think of it as being in a baseball game without all those protective gears on. Its not, honey.

It’s a sort of like a sport, yes. But it does not inflict charm or injury to anyone. Outdoor games and activities suit to increase your level of fitness, not like some ball game filled with technical and personal fouls.

7. Spending time outdoors will gradually improve your self-efficacy, confidence, endurance, power, strength, and most importantly,it builds character. Use this as your key to the gate of your goals.

8. Motivate your self. The best place to get started is right where you are standing. Enjoy it.

9. Outdoor activities will teach you the value of skill management, self motivation, the ability to see the beauty of your dreams, and a million and one ways to achieve it.

10. Time is an important element. Organize your schedule. Look for vacant slots and free times when you can best spend a day outdoor. Call on your families, neighbors and friends to savor the best outdoor activities you can think of and get as much fun as you can.

Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery

Bizarre Collection in University of Glasgow Campus, Scotland

© David Whitley

Scottish scientist William Hunter bequeathed Scotland's oldest public museum. Find the entrance, and marvel at Sir Isaac Newton's death mask and a walrus' penis bone...
The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery in Glasgow, Scotland
There are some museums which have a definitive theme; they’re about something in particular and that’s the reason to go there. However, it’s often the case that the best museums have no overriding focus whatsoever. The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery in Glasgow, Scotland is a fine example of the latter type.

Scottish scientist William Hunter
Having first opened in 1807, the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery is essentially the extensive (and often bizarre) collection of Scottish scientist William Hunter. He bequeathed the collection and the money to build a museum to the University of Glasgow, which is where the collection can be found today. It is Scotland’s oldest public museum, and is currently celebrating its 200th anniversary – no mean achievement.

University of Glasgow Campus at Gilmorehill

Finding the museum can be something of a challenge in itself – it is not in the centre of Glasgow, but on the University of Glasgow campus at Gilmorehill to the west. However, it is quite close to the city’s major museum complex – the Kelvingrove. The Hunterian Museum can also be quite tricky to find within the university building in which it is housed; it’s one of those where visitors have to go through a few entrances, up a few stairs and into a hall without the direction being immediately obvious.

Sir Isaac Newton, Frederic Chopin and Robert The Bruce
Still, it’s worth navigating all the passageways and courtyards, as the museum plays host to a fantastically random selection of artefacts from around the world. Here is just a selection of what can be found inside this most odd museum…

The skeleton of a young, male Indian elephant.

A bird’s nest encrusted in calcite.

A shield belonging to a member of a Scottish Highland tribe.

Sir Isaac Newton’s death mask.

A bronze cast of Frederic Chopin’s hand.

Chimu pottery from South America.

Some Chinese jade.

The baculum (or penis bone, as it is more commonly known) of a walrus.

A bone from the foot of famous Scottish leader Robert The Bruce

A testicle in a jar.

The tooth of a mastodon.

Lots and lots of Buddha statues

Collector… superstar
It's all rather random isn’t it? Well that’s what makes it a fascinating way to while away a couple of hours for any visitor to Glasgow. If there’s one part that sums it up, it is a display on William Hunter himself, with the tagline: “Collector, anatomist, midwife, author, researcher, academian, superstar.” That’s the spirit…

Holiday Outdoor Gift Ideas

Tips for Those With Adventure on Their Shopping List

© Bill Sassani

Description of outdoor gear, clothing, and more, along with prices and where to purchase these items on the web.
Looking for an outdoor gift for that special someone this holiday? Shopping for a friend or loved one who is into outdoor adventure sports can be difficult, especially if the shopper is not interested in the same sports, or even the outdoors at all. The following gift ideas are sure to be a hit when unwrapped.

GPS Unit
Give the gift of direction with a handy GPS unit. Designed to use satellites to pinpoint a location on the planet, outdoor GPS’s are designed to be rugged and functional. The Garmin eTrex Legend is a practical unit that is reasonably priced, at $149.95 from REI. Among the features advertised include the ability to mark 50 waypoints, store 1,000 waypoints, and make trip calculations such as speed. The unit can also download maps from Garmin’s mapping software (sold separately).

Ski Goggles
Got a skier or snowboarder on the list? Think about giving him a new pair of goggles this year. A good pair will be able to shield the eyes from sunlight, and is able to block UV rays. They should also fit well with the face and allow for a clear field of view. The Oakley A-Frame goggles (between $85 to $130 from REI) offers venting to prevent fogging and blocks 100% of ultraviolet radiation. A more inexpensive model, the Cartel from Scott sells at $45.

Gloves
A nice pair of gloves makes a great stocking stuffer, and is always useful on the slope or for brushing snow off the car early in the morning. Outdoor Research has a fleece glove that sells for $45, and comes with a gripping surface on the palm to allow the wearer to have a better grip.

Knowledge
Maybe that special someone has all the gear they need, but wants to have a fun experience. Think about signing him/her up for a rock climbing class or kayaking adventure with a local guide service. For longer adventures, Outward Bound and the National Outdoor Leadership School offer courses that can last up to a semester, and offer technical skills training and group communication skills.

Gift Cards
If figuring out what to get for a gift proves too frustrating or confusing, consider purchasing a gift card. Major retailers such as REI offer them as well as smaller, local stores. Gift cards take the guesswork out of shopping for the right gift, and insure that your loved one get exactly what they are looking for.

Winter Camping Basics

How to Stay Warm in the Backcountry

© Bill Sassani

Tips for staying warm and dry while winter camping.
Camping during the wintertime can be a fun and rewarding experience, but a cold one as well. Staying warm in the woods is an important skill to know, not just to be comfortable, but to stay healthy, and even alive.

Plan Ahead
Whether it is a day of snow shoeing, a weekend backcountry skiing trip, or a major climbing expedition, proper planning can make the difference. Research the area being traveled, check the weather forecast, assemble food and equipment, and leave a copy of the itinerary with someone, along with an estimated return time.

Dress Appropriately
Wear appropriate clothing for the area and terrain that will be traveled. In winter, that means wearing more layers, with clothing made from wool, down, or synthetic materials. Cotton clothes, such as a sweatshirt and jeans, lose their insulating value when wet, draw away heat from the body, and take a long time to dry. Wool and synthetics are able to retain body heat even when wet, and require less time to dry.

Drink Water
Drinking cold water may be a difficult prospect when it is below freezing outside. To stay hydrated, make hot drinks such as hot chocolate, tea, or even hot water with Gatorade. Carry an insulated thermos, so that it is possible to have a hot drink or some soup throughout the day.

Eat All Day
When packing food, plan on carrying a variety of foods that will provided much needed calories to stay warm. Carbohydrates provide great short term energy, while foods rich in fats and protein can sustain the body over longer periods of time. Also, snacks such as trail mix can be brought to munch on throughout the day.

Stay Active
Moving around causes the body to burn more calories, and create more heat, as opposed to just standing around in camp. For many winter adventures, human powered activity is the reason for being out in the snow, such as snow shoeing, cross country skiing, backcountry skiing or snowboarding. While at the campsite, do jumping jacks or run in place to warm up the body. When going to sleep, do sit ups or crunches in the sleeping bag. The body heat that is released is trapped by the insulation in the bag.

Bring Padding
Sitting on the snow can be a numbing experience. Protect that posterior with a packable camping chair for sitting in camp. A square of closed-cell foam can be used to insulate feet from the cold ground, and keeps them dry from wet snow.
